Camellia Japonica

The Camellia Japonica is a leafy shrub that blooms early in the spring. The Camellia with its rose-like flowers is blooming for a long time.

The Camellia Japonica is hardy but in case of severe frost some protection is advisable. Cover the Camelia with breathable material.
It is possible that the Camellia (due to frost damage) loses its leaf. No panic, the plant will recover during the course of the year.

The Camellia Japonica does not like to be in full sun. A spot in the semi-shade is the most ideal.
Give the plant enough water and if placed in nutrient rich soil the Camellia can be up to 300 cm high.
Because the Camellia japonica has a tropical appearance you are inclined to spoil him. Do not do this because the buttons must remain cool to open. So preferably no early morning sun. If the buds warm up too quickly after a frost, they can fall off.

The Camellia japonica is a slow grower, about 15 to 20 cm per year. If the plant has finished flowering, you can cut back the plant. Limit this to some excellent branches and leave the plant alone.

In summer, keep the soil moist and fertilize the plant with potassium rich manure mid-summer. After the manure give good spraying immediately with rain or descaled water.
