Dracaena Compacta

The origins of the Dracaena are Africa, Central America and Asia. The Dracaena is also called the Dragonfly Tree and is an easy to care room plant. The living plant needs little maintenance, can be in half shade and is therefore very suitable for offices.

Water tax

In general, moderate watering, during the growing period which runs from March to August, is slightly more like winter. You can allow the soil to dry out before watering again. However, do not leave the roots in the water, causing root rot.

If the pot is provided (or you provide it yourself) from a substrate and a water meter, watering is easy! On arrival, there is little water, fill the pot slowly with water (sometimes wait) and you will see that the meter goes up automatically. All you have to do is keep an eye on this meter. If you go on vacation, you can fill the pot almost half full (this is what you see at the meter that will end up above its maximum) and you can rest 3 weeks away. In addition, it does not matter if the plants do not get too much and water too fast. The substrate absorbs the water, so if the water meter is underneath the substrate is still moist, but there is no water left underneath the pot. The plant still has enough space for 4 summer days.

Only spray the Dracaena occasionally to remove dust from the leaves and prevent pests. Spraying also promotes the quality and decorative value of the room plant.

The Dracaena thrives well in the half shadow and needs up to 2 to 3 hours of sunlight a day. The Dracaena prefers a window to the north, 3 to 4 meters by a window on the east or west and 4 to 5 meters by a south-facing window. The more colored Dracaenas like the Lemon Lime or the Song of India prefer slightly more light.

Minimum temperature

During the day 18 ° C

at night 13 ° C

The Dracaena does not need much nutrition. After purchase, the Dracaena can last months without food. Feeding only in spring or summer. Never give too much this can lead to burning of the roots. Look at the package for the correct dose.

A Dracaena is best suited to sprinkle into a larger pot in two years. The best period for overprotection is spring or immediately after the plant has been purchased. A larger pot will stimulate growth and the advantage is a larger buffer soil, which makes the water more dispersed and there is less chance of root rot. Always take a pot that is 20 to 25% larger and do not use Hydro grains on the bottom of the pot. It is best to use plastic insethoes with large pots.

Bladder damage

If a Dracaena gets discolored leaves, this is most likely due to too much water. If there are spots or brown edges on the leaves, the cause is too much light. Curled leaves indicate drought, if you notice this, the plant or in the past has been drying too long, or this is the case when you see this.

A Dracaena is a relatively slow grower and you can prune it in the autumn. The advantage of this is that the plant receives more light and remains more compact. The Dracaena will branch "at every branch where it is pruned". This gives you a beautiful full room or office plant. Use a pruning shear for this.

The Dracaena is a slightly poisonous plant. Eating leaves by some of our four-leggers can lead to stomach problems.

In the thicker and full plants, the leaves and tribes look at the pests occasionally. Common diseases include shield or cap. Wolluis can also be caused by a trip on the plant. Use a biological "or if desired" a chemical pesticide to treat the plants.

The Dracaena s is a versatile plant that occurs in many variations.

The Dracaena is known as one of the most air purifying plants and you often see in offices or public premises.
