Polyscias Fabian

The Polyscias, also known as Aralia, is native to islands in the Pacific Ocean. A Polyscias is a characteristic tree that likes to be in a shady spot and needs little water. Polyscias literally means "Much shade" in Greek. This houseplant has the property that leaves grow over the entire branch. Leaves of a Polyscias are green, white or yellow and have a round or heart-shaped appearance. This houseplant is highly recommended for the dark spot in your room or office.

Care Tips

The Polyscias can be kept slightly moist, but like many green house plants, the Polyscias does not like wet feet. It is better to water a little more often than a lot at once.
It is important to keep an eye on the ground "after purchase". Occasionally poke your finger into the soil to feel how quickly the soil dries. The amount of water used depends on the size of the plants and the location. The faster it dries, the more water.
The Polyscias prefers rainwater to tap water. Tap water often contains too much lime, which can cause the leaves to turn white.

Spraying

Your houseplant Polyscias likes to be watered very regularly. On the one hand to keep the ornamental value high and on the other hand spraying has a preventive effect against diseases. The dust is also removed from the leaf, so that the leaves can catch light better.

Location

The Polyscias feels at home in a shady place. The houseplant does not like direct sunlight. Do not place the plant near the heating or convector well, because the air is too dry.
After purchase, find a suitable place for your plant and rather not move it. The polyscias does not like changes.
The best place to put the plant is:
3 to 4 meters south side
2 to 3 meters east or west side
0 to 1 meter north side

pruning

It is preferable to prune the houseplant every year, so that it retains its compact shape. Pruning is best done in spring or summer.

Nutrition

Use Pokon green plant food. Read the instructions for use on the packaging. Like most plants, it is not necessary to feed the Polyscias in the fall or winter. The houseplant is then at rest.

Leaf fall

If a leaf falls off the Polyscias, this is no reason to panic. However, if a lot of leaves fall off, you should take another critical look at the location. The air around the plant will then be too dry, which indicates heating or a convector well nearby. Find another place!
Also, if the air is too dry, brown edges can appear on the leaves.

Disease/vermin

Again, due to too dry air, your Polyscias is sensitive to spider mites, shields or aphids. Reduce this chance by watering regularly. You can remove spider mites with a hard jet of water. For shield and aphids it is advised to use a pesticide as soon as possible.
