Caryota mitis
The Caryote, also known as fishtail palm or fin palm, differs greatly in appearance from other palm trees. This is because the deviant leaves resemble the tail of a fish. These palms originate from Asia, but are also grown a lot in Suriname. The plant family is Palmea or Arecaceae.
Because this palm works well in dark locations, it is a great plant for offices.
Watering and maintenance
The plant is easy to maintain. Keep the earth moist with lukewarm water and he feels comfortable in the shade. Give some food from 14 x 14 days before and until autumn. Repotting 1 x in 1 to 2 years is recommended, the plant also does not like cold, preferably 18 degrees or more.
Repotting
You can repot the caryota in the spring. The roots recover the fastest in this period. In general, the larger the pot, the more water buffer that reduces the chance of drying out.
Repotting once every two years is more than enough to promote the health and growth of the caryota. If you choose a decorative pot, always take a pot that is larger so that the roots have the chance to grow with it.
Remove dead leaves from the caryota mitis and, if the plant is too dusty, rinse off.
