Pachira Aquatica

Light Needs: partial shade

Origin and care

The pachira Aquatica originates from Brazil, Panama and Costa Rica and belongs to the Malvaceae family also known as mallow family.

To water

The Pachira differs in care from many other houseplants. This plant needs a good splash of water once every 3 weeks. Because the Pachira stores water in the trunk, the soil must be dried out before watering again. In the summer, the soil can be slightly moist before the houseplant gets water again. Do not water too much, this will cause the plant with its roots to stand in the water and root rot can occur

In winter, the air is drier due to the heat from the central heating. Regular spraying prevents leaf loss and also removes dust and vermin.

The Pachira likes light but not direct sunlight. A place on the North or East is better than the south side. If the leaves turn yellow, the plant is getting too much light, then place the plant + - 1 meter further from the window. If the leaves grow too fast (stretch), the Pachira is too dark and must be moved a little more to the window.

It is enough to provide the pachira with fertilizers only during the growing period (spring and summer). Use liquid food for this (see alternative products). It is important that you never feed in the winter and do not overdose. (see instructions for use).

If the Pachira is in a draft, the plant will drop its leaves. This is also possible if the plant gets too much water.

The pachira is an ideal plant to give as a gift.
