The Philodendron selloum belongs to the Araceae family, and is mainly found in the tropical, humid rain forests of Central and South America. Generally they are climbing species with well-developed aerial roots (epiphytic species). However, there are also varieties that creep over the ground or take on a shrub shape. The name comes from the Greek Philéo which means 'to love' and Dendron means 'tree'.
