Mandevilla

Pitch:

Mandevilla likes to be in a bright place. Direct sunlight is better than the shade. As a rule, the darker the fewer flowers the plant will give.

Care

Watering and fertilizing

In summer it is wise to water the Mandevilla every day. You can finish this after the autumn. This is a matter of regularly feeling how moist the earth is.

As with most plants, be careful not to leave the roots in the water, which can cause root rot.

From April 1 to September 1, give the plant a liquid plant food for flowering plants.

Pruning

You can remove too long tendrils from the Mandevilla all year round by cutting them off. Cutting it back to a flower cluster gives extra flowers.

Hibernate

Mandevilla is a non-hardy plant. This means that you should bring the plant indoors in the fall, when there is a risk of frost. Make sure that the root ball is not too wet, because of the risk of root rot. You may remove any branches that are too long. Place the plant in a light place at a temperature of 10 degrees or more, making sure that the root ball is just sufficiently wet. Depending on the location and temperature, water every other week.

Check this by regularly lifting the Mandevilla.

There are endless beautiful balcony, garden and terrace plants. Follow the 'Golden Rules' for the care of your tub plant so that you can enjoy it for a long time!

- Follow the care tips on the enclosed label of the plant
- Use well-permeable potting soil and water regularly. On warm days you can do this twice a day.
- Beware of night frost!
- Avoid too much sun, drought, water in the pot.
- Remove spent flowers and prune the plant regularly to keep the shape and flowering of the plant optimal.
- Give plant food regularly for a beautiful long-lasting plant.

Tub plants require intensive care. In the autumn before the frost begins, the plants can go inside. In the spring, early May, the plants can go outside again. More information about overwintering can be found under the heading 'overwintering' on this site. Repotting is best done at the end of April, add some clay so that more moisture is retained.

Allow tub plants to overwinter

After you have been able to enjoy your tub plant all summer, you can ensure that you can enjoy it again the following year. This can be done by overwintering the tub plant in a frost-free place. Tub plants cannot withstand frost.

It is important that the plant is frost-free. This can be done in a cool spot in the house at about 7 ° C, for example. Water the plant moderately so that the root ball cannot dry out.

It is possible that the plant drops all its leaves, as if it dies, but this is not the case! This is the rest period.

A plant with little or no leaves evaporates almost no water during this rest period. So make sure that the plant gets very little water!

From March you can put the plant a little warmer and lighter and new leaf buds will soon appear.

At the end of April it may be time to repot the container plant. Add some clay so that a lot of moisture is retained. If the plant is in a pot, make a hole in the bottom so that the excess water can drain!

The Mandevilla is a rich bloomer and an asset to your garden or terrace.
