Rhapis excelsa is the botanical name of this type of palm. The origins of this palm are the tropical and subtropical areas of South China. This palm has bushy stems that grow up from the underground roots. The Rhapis has beautiful green pure leaves and, thanks to its bushy stems, an exclusive look. Originally you will find this palm in the humid forests where it covers the slopes. The palm is preferably in a shady place, and if placed in the room the ideal temperature is 20 °. In winter you can also put it in a cooler place, up to 5 ° is no problem.
Because this pot is provided with a substrate and a water meter, watering is easy! Upon arrival there is little water, fill the pot slowly with water (sometimes wait) and you will see that the meter automatically rises. All you have to do is keep an eye on this meter. If you go on holiday, you can fill the pot almost half full (you can see this at the meter that comes to an end above its maximum) and you can safely leave for 14 days.
In addition, it is also not bad if the plants do not get too much water too quickly. The substrate absorbs the water, so when the water meter is at the bottom the substrate is still damp, but there is no water at the bottom of the pot. The plant then has more than enough for 4 summer days.
So leaving a few days dry is certainly not a problem, especially in times when the plant evaporates little (in the winter) is recommended!
