Care tips

Pitch and care

The Spathiphyllum loves a moderately light or shady place, and certainly not from direct sunlight. The ideal temperature is between 15 and 23 ° C.

The jar must always be moist. Watering is usually sufficient once a week. The plant may be in a layer of water with its feet. For a healthy Spathiphyllum it is recommended to add some plant nutrition to the water once a month.

The Spathiphyllum flourishes for about four to ten weeks and then needs a few weeks of rest to develop new flower buds. It is wise to completely cut off the old (green) flower stem after flowering. The Spathiphyllum always develops new shoots, after which flowers come out after about twelve weeks. To promote flowering, it may be good to keep the plant temporarily slightly drier and put in a somewhat colder place.

Frequently Asked Questions

Spathiphyllum purifies the air by absorbing various harmful substances from the air through the skin's mouths during their natural breathing. These substances are then stored and broken down in the plant or root. Also, CO2 is converted into oxygen during the day, bringing the plants water vapor into the air, which improves humidity.

How many plants are optimal; how much Spathiphyllum should I put in a room so that it is perfectly healthy / the air is purified?
Researchers from, among other things, NASA recommend to place 15-18 plants per 180m3 for a good contribution to a healthier indoor climate. Researches, including NASA and TNO, show that plants such as Spathiphyllum at home and in the workplace not only have air purifying effects but also have a positive impact on human psych.

Spathiphyllum are real houseplants. Originally, the plants come from tropical asia and south america and can not reach temperatures below 15 ° C and hard wind. We therefore recommend that you enjoy your Spathiphyllum just inside.

If the Spathiphyllum is in the right place and enjoy good care, they can be in your house or office for years as an air purifying eye-catcher.

Toxic plants; Are the Spathiphyllum poisonous to humans and animals?
Spathiphyllum are intended for decoration and not for consumption. Although the different plants are produced in an environmentally friendly manner, we recommend that you consult a physician for internal use.

Drops of leaf; My Spathiphyllum separates drops from the points of the leaves. What can I do about this and is it poisonous?
Spathiphyllum evaporate the water they absorb with their roots and thereby improve the humidity. This evaporation can be so high that drops on the leaves occur. You may be able to put the plant in a somewhat cooler place.
