The Yucca mainly occurs in Guatemala and Honduras.
The Yucca likes to be in a bright spot (no direct sun) but half shade is also possible. In the summer a place on the terrace is not a problem but beware of temperatures below 8 degrees. Avoid outside or the midday sun.
In the growth period from April to August, once every two weeks fertilize. Do not water too much in winter. Slightly more water in the growing season than in the winter.
Keep the soil rather drier. The plant should not stand with its feet in the water. Remove the leaves of the Yucca from time to time with a damp cloth.
If the pot is provided (or you provide it yourself) with a substrate and a water meter, watering is easy! Upon arrival there is little water, fill the pot slowly with water (sometimes wait) and you will see that the meter automatically rises. All you have to do is keep an eye on this meter. If you go on vacation, you can fill the pot almost half full (you can see this at the meter which comes to an end above its maximum) and you can safely leave for 3 weeks. In addition, it is also not bad if the plants do not get too much water too quickly. The substrate absorbs the water, so when the water meter is at the bottom the substrate is still damp, but there is no water at the bottom of the pot. The plant then has more than enough for 4 summer days.
Dry air is no problem for the Yucca houseplant, so spraying is not immediately necessary. However, spraying once or sowing once in the rain causes the dust to be removed.
Because the Yucca needs little nutrition, fertilizing is only advisable in the spring and summer. no food in winter! Too much nutrition can lead to burnt roots. Use Pokon green plant food for this.
The Yucca will always create new leaves from the heart. The lower leaves can die off (natural process) and you can remove them by pulling them down.
Check the Yucca regularly for diseases. Look under and between the leaf, the sooner you perceive the disease, the greater the chance of effective control.
A yucca can bloom outside. The flowers are spectacular to see, when a yucca in the house is blooming it is advisable to remove the flower. This flower costs a lot of energy from the plant.
It is advisable to transfer the Yucca immediately after purchase in a larger pot. Do this preferably in the spring so that possibly damaged roots can recover quickly "during this growth period".
Buying the yucca online saves a lot of dragging!
