The Caryota Mitis is also known as the fish-tail palm or finned palm. It gets its name from its unique leaves that resemble fish tails. These unusual leaves give it a very different appearance from other palm trees, making it a unique addition. The fishtail palm is found worldwide in the tropics, where it can grow up to 12 meters tall! Don't worry, the plant is a slow grower and won't reach this height in your home anytime soon. The Caryota Mitis does well in dark places, making it particularly suitable for offices as well.
Care
Like other palms, the Caryota Mitis likes to stand in constantly moist soil. However, it is important that no layer of water forms at the bottom of the pot. This can cause root rot. Therefore, it is best to water the plant once every five days in summer, and once every two weeks in winter. The Caryota stands well in a shady spot, but the plant needs light. If the palm receives too little light, growth may stagnate.
