More information

The Vaccinium macrocarpon is a beautiful small evergreen shrub that grows the well known Cranberries. Cranberries are small, round, red fruits that are extremely healthy. Raw they are quite sour, but processed into compote or jam they are delicious to eat. The plant is extremely hardy, and beautiful in large pots on balconies or terraces. The Cranberry blooms in May or June with white flowers. After the flowers, the berries follow. The Cranberries can be harvested and eaten around August.

Care
Plant cranberries preferably in an acid soil that is well moist. Drought is disastrous for the cranberry, therefore the soil can even be flooded occasionally. Cranberries originally grew on wet peat bogs, marshes and in dune areas. The plant also stands up well to saline climates. When the Vaccinium is planted in the garden, it is best to plant them with a spacing of 10x10 cm. Then the plants become a good ground cover and weeds have little chance to grow. Cranberries require very little maintenance. The plant requires no additional fertilization. Every few years you can prune the plants back in March. This promotes growth and ensures a good harvest.

Size
The plants have a height of 10-20cm upon delivery, measured including the nursery pot. The plants are supplied in a nursery pot with a diameter of 9cm.
