More information

Musella Lasiocarpa or Golden Lotus Banana is a relative of the 'common' banana plant. The plant originates from the provinces of Yunnan and Guizhou, where it grows at an altitude of 2500 metres. This banana is characterised by its grey-green leaves, with red veins. It remains smaller than the original Musa Basjoo. This banana also forms side shoots. After 3 to 4 years, the plant can flower. First, the leaves get smaller and smaller and finally a gold-coloured flower develops. More and more petals open up to form the flower. What is special about this flower is the fact that it will remain beautiful for up to six months. After flowering, the plant dies, but the many side shoots continue to grow and form new plants.

Care
The best place for the Musella is a sunny warm spot in moist soil with proper drainage. The plant also grows great in a pot. Water regularly in the summer. The Musella can withstand frost but not a humid climate during the winter. Protect the plant well during the winter or keep it as a tub plant. From April to November, this species will do well outside. Overwintering is best done in a cool and dry place. All bananas like plenty of water and fertilizer and a sunny location in spring and summer. In winter, the plant is in 'dormancy' and has little to no water.

Size
The plants have a height of 25-40cm upon delivery, measured including the nursery pot. The plants are supplied in a nursery pot with a diameter of 9cm.
