Lonicera heckrotti 'American Beauty' is a highly decorative honeysuckle with beautiful, strikingly colored flowers. This Lonicera is an excellent climbing plant to liven up a wall or fence. Honeysuckle is known to spread a wonderful fragrance, especially in the evening. This is no different with the American Beauty! The American Beauty blooms throughout the summer with unusual purple-red with yellow flowers. In autumn, the flowers are succeeded by small purple-black berries, which later turn blue-green. The American Beauty is hardy and deciduous and can grow 3 to 4 feet tall.
Care
Lonicera American Beauty prefers a sunny or semi-shaded position. It does well in any well-drained soil and is hardy. The plant can best be pruned in early spring. The old and damaged branches can then be pruned to the desired height, which stimulates the growth of new shoots. To make the American Beauty climb as high as possible, you can help the plant by placing a plant rack, for example.
