Acer palmatum 'Extravaganza' is a Japanese maple with beautiful purple-red leaves that stand out because of the broad white and pink stripes in them. They make the plant a striking feature that steals the show in your garden/balcony most of the year. It is a graceful plant that can grow up to 150 cm tall. The Acer is hardy and deciduous.
Care
Japanese maples can best be planted from March to early October. During this period, the soil is warmer and the plants can root well. In a planter, this plant does not require special potting soil. Japanese maples are strong plants but in a windy location, the leaves can be damaged. Therefore, place the Acer in a sheltered spot. The plant prefers a spot in semi-shade, preferably not too much direct sunlight. Too much direct sunlight can dry out the roots, leading to leaf loss and burning. A Japanese maple is not evergreen, meaning it loses its leaves in winter. However, the plant is very hardy and will sprout again from March with beautiful new leaves.
