Acer 'Garnet' is one of the many varieties of Japanese maple. Garnet has beautiful red leaves with which you can decorate your garden. This award-winning Japanese maple is known for its large, deeply incised leaves and for its sculptural shape. Their branches add a wonderful oriental touch to any garden. Towards spring, the Acer gets bright red leaves and then changes colour to a rich dark red. The variety of colours gives this plant a special appearance and makes it a nice addition to your backyard.
Care
The Garnet is a slow grower with a narrow upright growing direction that keeps the plant compact. This allows you to grow this tree in a pot or in a smaller garden. Japanese Maples can best be planted from March to the beginning of November. In this period the soil is warmer and the plants can easily root. Japanese maples are strong plants but in a windy location the leaves can easily get damaged. Therefore, put the Acer in a sheltered place. The plant prefers a spot in the semi-shade, preferably with not too much direct sunlight. Too much direct sunlight can cause the roots and leaves to dry out, which can lead to leaf damage. A Japanese Maple is not evergreen, which means that it loses its leaves during the winter. However, this plant is very hardy and will sprout again in March with beautiful new leaves.
