Imagine yourself in the rainforest with the Alocasia Portodora! This beautiful plant has large leaves with curled sides and instantly creates a jungle-like atmosphere. The Alocasia belongs to the Araceae family and is native to the tropics of Southeast Asia. The Alocasia is also called Elephant's Ear because of its huge leaves, which in the wild can be a meter and a half in diameter. But don't worry, they won't get that big in the house!
Care
The Alocasia prefers to stand in soil that is constantly slightly moist. In winter the plant uses less water, but make sure the soil does not dry out! You can check the soil regularly by sticking a finger in the soil. To prevent root rot, give the plant a small amount of water at a time. This will prevent a layer of water from forming at the bottom of the pot. The Alocasia likes to be in a bright spot with at least 5 hours of sunlight. If it does not get enough sunlight, it will grow long stems that can no longer support the weight of the leaves, causing them to droop or even break. The plant likes moist air and likes to be watered weekly.
