The Calathea Oppenheimiana is a striking plant that more than earns its nickname "Peacock Plant" with its beautifully colored leaves and patterns. The Calathea is native to the jungles of the Amazon region and South America, where it grows in the shade. Hence, it also prefers not to be in full sun in living rooms. The Calathea Oppenheimiana fits into any interior and is guaranteed to steal the show with its light purple leaves. Fun fact: at night the plant closes its leaves, which it opens again in the morning. So don't be alarmed if you hear some rustling!
Care
The Calathea uses a lot of water. You can regularly give the plant small amounts of water at a time. In the summer the plant needs watering twice a week, which can be reduced to once a week in the winter. Above all, make sure that the Calathea always stands in slightly moist soil, but be careful not to create a layer at the bottom of the pot. The Calathea prefers a spot in the (semi-) shade, without direct sunlight as this can burn the leaves.
