This striking plant is originally from Mexico. The Beaucarnea is a characteristic plant with a robust stem that looks just like an elephants foot. In the Netherlands, the plant is known as the Elephants foot. In other countries, the plant is known as Pony Tail, because of its long, stringy leaves. The Beaucarnea needs at least 5 hours of direct sunlight per day. Hence, the ideal place for this plant is directly in front of a window. If the plant does not receive enough light, it will not grow fresh leaves and is also more prone to root rot. The Beaucarnea does not need much water because it stores water in its stem.
