Callistemon Laevis is an evergreen Mediterranean plant with strong, compact leaves that are bronze-red when they emerge and then turn grey-green. In summer it treats you to a jaw-dropping display of fiery red ‘bottlebrush’ flowers. Not only do they put on a punchy show of colour, but they attract bees and butterflies too. Thanks to its beautiful flowers, the Callistemon is a real ornament for the garden. Ideal for growing in a large container, it can be enjoyed as an indoor or conservatory plant through the cool months, then bring it out in summer to display on the patio.
Care
The Callistemon prefers a spot in the sun and can withstand wind well. It does not like severe frost and can stay outside down to -4ºC. It is best to put the tree inside during the winter. Therefore, Callistemon is best kept as a tub plant so that it can overwinter frost-free. As for the maintenance of the plant, it is recommended to prune immediately after flowering. This will stimulate the growth of the branches and the plant will produce flowers again the following year.
