Hydrangea paniculata 'Grandiflora' is a panicle hydrangea with large white flowers. It is also called 'Sheephead Hydrangea'. The large flower panicles consist of two types of flowers; in the center are the fertile and more to the edge are the infertile flowers, whose task is to attract insects, which provide pollination, to the fertile flowers. The white flowers appear on the plant beginning in July. The flowers turn crimson later in the season. The flowers are sometimes too heavy for the stems, in which case support is recommended. Hydrangea paniculata 'Grandiflora' is a deciduous garden plant, which means the plant loses its leaves after summer and is bare during winter.
Care
The Hydrangea Paniculata is easy to care for, this shrub does not have heavy soil requirements and it is very hardy. Hydrangeas like places with a little sun and partial shade. They do very well in urban environments. The flowering period of the Hydrangea is between July and September. Hydrangea paniculata 'Grandiflora' is kept small by annual pruning. The branches should be pruned back in March to about 30cm above the ground.
