Acer palmatum 'Orange Lace' is a rare 'limited edition' Japanese maple! This beautiful little Acer tree is great for placing in pots and containers on the patio or balcony. When the leaves first appear in spring, they are a striking dark orange. As the leaves age, they will gradually turn light green. In fall, they change back to beautiful vibrant colors before losing their leaves revealing dark brown stems. So this Acer gives you something to look forward to all year round. When given ample space, the Acer Orange Lace can grow up to 2 meters tall.
Care
Japanese Maples are best planted from March to early October. During this period, the soil is warm and the plants can root well. In a planter, this plant does not require special potting soil. Japanese Maples are strong plants but in a windy location the leaves can be damaged. Therefore, place the Acer in a sheltered place. The plant prefers a spot in semi-shade, preferably not too much direct sunlight. Too much direct sunlight can dry out the roots which can lead to leaf loss and can burn the leaves.
A Japanese Maple is not evergreen, meaning it loses its leaves in winter. However, the plant is very hardy and will sprout again with beautiful new leaves starting in March.
