The passiflora is native to northern Argentina. In tropical and subtropical regions, it is a well-known plant for its sweet fruits, also known as passionfruit. Delicious passion fruits appear already in the first year after flowering. The fruits taste fresh and sweet and sour. Besides giving delicious fruits, the plant also grows unusual, large flowers. These flowers grow from May to September. This is followed by the fruit from about September to October. The passiflora is moderately hardy. It is a climbing plant; the plants attach themselves and will quickly cover a trellis or a wall. They are strong and fast growers and have many flowers. Furthermore, they are ideal plants for in a pot but can also be planted in the open ground. Passiflora plants can grow up to 3 or 4 metres. Passiflora is also very attractive to bees and butterflies. The Passiflora XL Victoria blooms from May - September with striking purple flowers.
Care
La passiflora no tiene requisitos complicados. Crece rápidamente y no es exigente en cuanto a suelo y nutrición. La planta prefiere un suelo ligeramente húmedo y una posición soleada con un poco de sombra. Sin embargo, la passiflora es tóxica para los animales domésticos.
